During a private lesson our objective is to assault weaknesses while continuing to build on a player's current strengths. This is achieved by pointing out shortcomings such as form in a player's particular skill set. The next step is teaching the proper techniques while simultaneously explaining when, where and why it applies to a game situation. This gives the player a visualization of how the skill should be performed and assists with their understanding of the game by reinforcing the skill and its key teaching points.

If sequenced properly, skills are developed much quicker during private instruction because the player has constant repetition and continuity with the physical learning process, as well as higher retention rates of information. It should be noted that private instruction is designed to focus on individual skill development and the player must be able to handle constructive criticisms in order to recognize what needs to be worked on to achieve a higher level of skill development. The increases of the learning curve both physically and mentally are what make private instruction such an effective tool in player development.
